Senior Acute Medicine Trust Grade Registrar

NHS Medical & Dental: Local Appointment nodal point 4

Job overview

Senior Acute Medicine Trust Grade Registrar

Are you considering specialty training but feel you need more experience in acute unselected medicine at registrar level?

Have you finished your CT2 post but aren’t sure what specialty may suit you best and would like the chance to improve your CV and explore your options?

Are you an IMT doctor who is already working at registrar level in a smaller trust but wants to gain experience in one of the biggest and busiest Acute Medicine departments in the country?

Do you want to be a medical registrar but feel nervous about the step up?

We have developed Senior Acute Medicine Trust Grade Registrar posts which offer unrivalled support for those doctors looking to transition from SHO level to become a medical registrar and for established registrars wishing to develop their clinical and leadership skills, perhaps in anticipation of gaining a training number or embarking on a CESR programme. We can offer you an exceptional experience in all areas of acute medicine, working in a friendly and supportive team.

To be eligible to apply, you will need GMC registration, MRCP and substantive experience at minimum CT level or equivalent.

The post is for 12 months to commence 1st April 2025

Main duties of the job

Please see the attached job description, person specification and job plan for the main duties of this role

You will increasingly work towards independent practice at Registrar level, leading ward rounds, assessing patients, making decisions etc. with Consultant support and supervision available at all times

Working in our Acute Medicine department encompasses many management skills such as managing the ward, keeping to target times, managing junior colleagues and constant reprioritisation of tasks.

You will be expected to make appropriate decisions regarding the need for admission, the development of strategies which might provide an alternative to admission and identifying where early discharge would be safe and appropriate.

The opportunity to further develop skills such as history taking, physical examination, appropriate investigation and rational prescribing will be plentiful in the role.
