East Midlands Ambulance NHS Trust (EMAS) is delighted to advertise this opportunity for a Head of Education within the Directorate of Human Resources and Organisational Development.
The Directorate is a busy place to work and delivers a broad range of clinical and driving education programmes and organisational development.


EMAS has corporate education centres based in Lincoln, Nottingham (Clifton), Leicester and Northampton, delivering regulated clinical courses, Trust based internal programmes and organisational development.


The Head of Education is primarily responsible for ensuring that educational standards are maintained in line with education awarding bodies, external and internal audit standards, and legislative requirements. The Head of Education is accountable to the Assistant Director of Education and Organisational Development for the assurance of the quality of education delivery by providing expert knowledge, skill, and leadership in education standards, including Apprenticeships Frameworks and Driving Standards.

EMAS strive to be outstanding in both patient care and through educational standards and experience. You will need to have a diverse and sound educational experience at a senior level. 
You must be confident to direct educational development, lead quality assurance and improvement strategies and have a depth of understanding of education across a diverse portfolio, demonstrated through your own experience.

Main duties of the job

Specifically, the core responsibilities are to:

  • Develop and be responsible for implementation of an assurance framework to meet the requirements of external education awarding bodies and regulatory inspection regimes.
  • Develop and be responsible for maintaining an internal education quality assurance framework to ensure that all education activates within the Trust meets the requirements of awarding and compliance bodies.
  • Develop, and be responsible for implementation and monitoring of improvement actions plans.
  • Provide guidance to teams and/or individuals in the Trust who deliver education to ensure that quality assurance processes are embedded.
  • Ensure that the Trust workforce plan is compliant with education standards of delivery and meets the needs of the clinical operating model.
  • Liaise with the relevant directorates to ensure that ownership of the quality assurance process is shared with those responsible for education activity.
  • Positive and sustainable relationships are established both within and outside the organisation that enable assurance of education standards support the Trusts business plan.
  • Monitor and manage team performance and participate in education transformation and improvement agendas.
  • Lead on the assurance of statutory and mandatory education standards of delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of partnerships with identified education providers to ensure adequate education provision to support trust needs and future workforce  supply.

 

Working for our organisation

At East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS), we are focused on delivering a high standard of emergency and urgent care to our patients across the region.

The base for the role is home and there is a combination of a home/office working pattern, the expectation would be a balance of approximately 2/3 days on site on a weekly basis.   You will be expected to travel around the East Midlands region when required and will also be expected to be flexible (and we will offer you flexibility also to carry out your role) as you will be operating in a fast paced environment.

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Educated and has experience to master’s degree level or equivalent in either clinical, leadership or other relevant subject area
  • Significant leadership/management experience in an education environment
  • Experience in conducting and reporting education quality assurance reviews against set educational standards.
  • Can demonstrate a working knowledge of current relevant education regulation.
  • Experience in short and longterm workforce planning and education redesign initiatives.
  • Evidence of continual professional development related to education
