Exciting opportunities have arisen for a Head of Healthcare to join the Offender Health Directorate working at HMP Fosse Way. HMP Fosse Way is a Category C Resettlement Prison.
HMP Fosse Way houses 1,715 prisoners and focus on the rehabilitation of offenders and their reintegration back into society. It consists of 7 House blocks across 4 floors. There is a dedicated healthcare suite located in the main building with also additional multi use rooms across the establishment including rooms for groups or 1-2-1’s.
We are looking for someone who will be able to provide effective clinical and operational management of prison health services, including monitoring external Service level Agreements which address the Local Health Needs Assessment and ensure delivery against required standards e.g., Prison Health Performance Indicators, Standards for Better Health.
The role will involve leading a large multi-disciplinary team with Mental Health, Physical Health (primary care , extended scope and emergency response) and Substance Misuse services, Pharmacy team alongside psychiatry, psychology and IDD specialist roles. The role will be pivotal in the relationship management with the prison senior management team.
Main duties of the job
To effectively manage prison healthcare, including monitoring Service Level Agreements with external providers reflecting best practice and meeting commissioner Key Performance Indicators and patient requirements.
To establish and maintain an effective relationship with the Prison Senior Management team and work as a co-opted member of this group.
To identify and implement service improvements through effective management based on a sound analysis of information, interpretation of outcomes
Ensure the delivery of service provision meets the Key Performance
Indicators, where failure to meet KPI’s occurs, put in place processes
and solutions to improve service provision.
To promote and develop effective models of multi-disciplinary care, redesigning care pathways to address health inequalities and reduce inappropriate referrals to secondary care.
To provide professional clinical management leadership to all staff
employed within the service, including those employed via an external SLA, ensuring role clarity, clear, objective setting and individual performance review, promoting development opportunities of all staff.
To ensure that service delivery and improvement is patient focused and that mechanisms are in place to take patient needs and views into account To ensure the service reflects on lessons learnt from complaints, Serious Untoward Incidents and incidents.
To promote the service through local, regional and national forums, conferences and publications.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Offender Health Care Group is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK. The Care Group provide physical, mental health and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands, Lincolnshire & Leicestershire.
The Care Group provides healthcare to 7 prisons and a short term holding facility. You are part of a large peer group of 400+ healthcare professionals with access to peer support, supervision and excellent opportunities for learning and development. We also offer services within the Personality Disorder Pathway, including Therapeutic Communities (within prisons), Community and Prison Personality Disorder services and specialist Veteran Services.

You must be a health or social care professional or experienced manager of Healthcare teams and services with evidence of effecting positive change processes and quality improvement.
You must have thorough knowledge of National Healthcare agenda, legislation, local agendas and an in-depth understanding and working knowledge of clinical governance.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Professional health related graduate qualification with evidence of further development to Masters Level or equivalent.
- Registrant with the NMC/ HCPC/ Allied Health Professional
- Evidence of further development to Master’s Level or equivalent experience
- Evidence of CPD
- Professional training or CPD in leadership/ management
Desirable criteria
- Teaching and assessing qualification
- Training or CPD in project management
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experienced manager of teams and clinical services with evidence of effecting positive change processes.
- Experienced team worker, effectively working in a secure environment across professional boundaries
- Proven ability to lead, plan and manage specialist nursing and organisational service provision and develop specialist protocols and procedures within the clinical area
- Proven experience of monitoring services against Key Performance Indicators and Quality Standards
- Experience of risk assessment and root cause analysis
- Experience of applying a quality improvement process to an area of service delivery.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Thorough knowledge of National Healthcare agenda, legislation and local agendas
