Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced pharmacy assistant  to join our busy, friendly pharmacy department.  to deliver a high quality patient-focused pharmacy service.

You must be self-motivated with a flexible working approach and be able to demonstrate good communication and organisational skills, working independently and as part of a team.  The job is a busy and physically demanding role and you will be expected to work to deadlines.

Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled worker visa. 

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.

Main duties of the job

The overriding purpose is to support provision of the highest quality patient care within the Offender Health directorate, through personal actions and continuous improvement.

Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Technician, assist in the provision of a specialist high quality, safe prison pharmacy ordering, distribution and supply service which reflects National and Local Policy and Priorities, taking into account the high level of security that must be maintained at all times.

This is achieved by a wide range of routine tasks and through the accurate and efficient ordering, receipt, storage and distribution of medicines.

To provide general advice to colleagues regarding medication availability and pharmacy information.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder will work within the Pharmacy department assisting and  working with other pharmacy and healthcare professionals to deliver a comprehensive pharmacy service within the prison.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous employment as Pharmacy Assistant or equivalent
  • Team working
  • Experience of accurate stock control
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in secure environment eg secure hospital or prison
  • Previous experience of using SystmOne
  • Previous employment in a customer/ patient facing role

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent experience acquired through ‘on the job’ training
Desirable criteria
  • Competency training and experience of eg stock management

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Health and safety considerations
  • Knowledge of pharmacy procedures, legislation and practices, eg ordering of stock and prescribed medication, supply and administration to patients
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
