Ward Matron - Acute Mental Health

Band 7

Job overview

We are looking to recruit to the position of Ward Matron on Marina PICU.  Marina PICU is a 7 bed Male Psychiatric Intensive Care Ward for adults predominantly aged between 18 and 65.

The ward endeavours to work in partnership with both internal and external agencies to promote each patient’s recovery.  Working in co-production with individuals is embedded in both the creation and delivery of service.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking applications from Registered Mental Health Nurses with at least 18 months experience at Band 6 or above who are ambitious, motivated, enthusiastic and reliable.

As the successful candidate, you will be an excellent communicator, both orally and in writing with clarity and precision. You will have proven problem solving, analytical and reflective skills, have the ability to function effectively in the face of highly emotional and distressing problems and a strong value base which drives practice.  Co-production and working in partnership will be core to what you do in your current practice.

You will be responsible and accountable for the day to day operational management of the ward.  You will provide clinical leadership and ensure the achievement of key performance indicators.   You will actively seek to promote the wellbeing of your staff team.    You will seek out areas of improvement on the ward and work collaboratively with both internal and external agencies to achieve such improvements.  You will be expected to take part in the mental health management on call rota.  Effective communication with patients and their carers will be critical in ensuring that you drive forward quality compassionate care.

As a Ward Matron, you will be expected to resolve concerns and complaints and investigate incidents objectively; you will take steps to ensure that learning is embedded and shared across the wider service.

Working for our organisation

The successful candidate will join an established and supportive management team where quality and the safety of care being delivered in the service are at the foundation of everything we do.

Whilst you will be responsible for your learning and development, we will support you to set goals and actions to progress your career.

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
