Band 3 Community HCA for Physical Health

NHS AfC: Band 3

Job overview

As part of the physical health team at Northamptonshire Healthcare, we see a wide variety of people who suffer from schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, anxiety and eating disorders. We see and screen patients’ physical health for the community mental health teams whose patients are at increased risk due to their lifestyles or prescribed medications. We aim to screen and intervene for high blood pressure, diabetes, weight management and drug & alcohol misuse. Primarily you will undertake phlebotomy, ECGs, blood pressures (manual & automated) and general health checks to our patient group. The role will require healthy lifestyle advice and support with future health promotion workshops. The role is varied and there are opportunities to support with the administrative aspect of the department, booking appointments, general administration, stock ordering and scanning paperwork.

An emphasis on prevention is encouraged through interventions and sign posting following face to face consultations. Previous experience is preferable of SystmOne software; however, training will be provided. Opportunities for training and development will be made available to the successful candidate and you will be encouraged to seek out new learning opportunities that are of professionally beneficial to you, the department and the wider NHFT trust. The above list is not exhaustive but forms the basis of the role.

Main duties of the job

As part of Northamptonshire Healthcare’s community physical health provision to people with serious mental illness (SMI), we are offering an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Band 3 HCA working between sites from Campbell House, Northampton and predominantly Isebrook Hospital in Wellingborough, Kettering, and Corby,  so you will need to be prepared to cover clinics within Northamptonshire due annual leaves, sickness absence or training for your colleagues. Working Monday to Friday, 9-5 (with some flexibility). It is anticipated that you will form an integral part of the team to improve and develop healthcare and improve quality through your experience, ongoing learning and appropriate use of research and development (R&D). Ideally you are encouraged to look for new and innovative ways of working and to identify and participate in Quality Improvement projects to promote the drive for Physical Health within the community and measure its efficacy.  Preferably you will have some experience of using Microsoft Office package such as MS Teams, Excel and ‘SystmOne’. You will have a pivotal position by being in a ‘patient facing’ role to help improve and extend the life expectancy of our mental health patients.

Essential: Full UK driving licence and access to a car as travel between trust sites and home visits is required.

Working for our organisation

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

NHFT promotes a culture of learning to improve the care and safety of our patients and staff, which focuses on people who enable our Trust to be ‘outstanding’ by supporting opportunity, innovation, development and growth.
