NHS Locum Consultant Anaesthetics 

We are looking to recruit a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist to our department at Northampton General Hospital. The successful applicant will join an existing team of 42 consultants, 7 speciality doctors and 34 junior doctors. Our department is fully committed to training, personal development and actively participates in hospital activity with many of us in trust lead roles. 

 

Main duties of the job

It is expected that the successful applicant will work in all theatre areas to an agreed job plan. This includes anaesthetic services for colorectal, vascular, urology, ENT, maxillofacial, plastics, obstetrics and gynaecology, eyes and orthopaedics. The successful applicant will join a core group of anaesthetists with special interest in obstetric anaesthesia and provide day time cover on the labour ward one day a week on an average. There is no Intensive Care work required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

It is expected that the successful applicant will work in all theatre areas to an agreed job plan. The indicative job plan is shown in table. Once appointed the exact job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the Clinical Director on behalf of the Medical Director.

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration
  • Eligible for entry/entered on the specialist register of the General Medical Council in Anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • Membership of Specialist Societies

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of anaesthetic management of a wide range of general, obstetric, head and neck, orthopaedic, emergency, trauma, and major surgery

Interpersonal skills

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to team working
  • Good organisational skills and punctuality
  • Good written, verbal and aural communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to change
  • Caring attitude towards colleagues

Audit/Research

Essential criteria
  • Experience of audit or quality improvement project

  • • Understanding of current education processes and requirements for training in Anaesthesia and ITU
