Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

To provide specialist nursing care in maintaining and developing a quality infection prevention and control (IPC) service.

To support delivery of the annual IPC audit programme.

To assist with the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection across the organisation.

Clinical

·       Work in a small team to deliver a specialist service across the Trust, based on principles that are research based and which enhance the quality of patient care.

  • Agree personal objectives with the Infection Prevention and Control Matron.
  • Be a visible point of contact for patients, visitors, relatives, and staff, acting as a resource for problems and able to clearly present the patients’ / clients’ point of view to others.
  • Ensure that nursing records and documentation are maintained and current.
  • Participate in the development of evidence – based patient care policies and procedures.
  • Provide specialist support to the clinical team.
  • Perform audit and surveillance of Healthcare Associated Infection, hand hygiene, and the healthcare environment, by collecting and analysing data.
  • Prepare reports on audit findings and feeding back in a timely manner.
  • Participate in education and training programmes on infection control for all staff groups in formal and informal settings.
  • Adopt innovative ways of working within the speciality.
  • Participate in clinical research in collaboration with other staff groups as required.
  • Use novel approaches in order to enhance the quality of patient care within the clinical speciality.
  • Be an active member and support the IPC team as appropriate.
  • Provide clinical support during outbreaks of infection.
  • Participate, with the support of the team, in the surveillance of Healthcare associated infections.      
  • Assists with the facilitation of clinical audits to promote clinical effectiveness.
  • Collects audit and surveillance data from patients and patient records.
  • Inputs surveillance data into electronic data capture systems.
  • Analyses surveillance data, produces reports, and feeds back findings to clinicians on a regular basis in order that areas for action can be identified at the earliest opportunity.
  • Collects action plans in response to audit and project findings.
  • To support root cause analyses of serious incidents and cases of infections.
  • Update Infection Prevention notice boards.
  • To be aware of the impact of service changes across the organisation.
  • Comply with Health & Safety and Infection Prevention and Control policies and ensure that staff, patients and visitors are appropriately informed and advised. Maintain a clean and safe environment. Ensure equipment used and techniques employed by staff comply with the Trusts Health & Safety policies.
  • Challenge others who do not comply with trust infection prevention guidelines such as hand hygiene at the five moments of care or use of personal protective equipment.
