Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint 2 outstanding candidates to these newly created positions! This is a rare opportunity to join our award-winning pathway!  You will lead services which are at the forefront of coproduced innovations such as our Mental Health Ambulance and our Integrated Response Hub.

Working 'out of hours', you will be responsible for the coordination and management of staffing resources across our mental health community pathways inclusive of the acute liaison teams in the general hospitals, custody healthcare, police street triage, the mental health ambulance, crisis cafes, crisis houses, urgent care teams, and the Integrated Response Hub.

Operational management will be core to your role and you will provide clinical leadership and be expected to manage and support staff to work in partnership with service users with more complex needs. You will foster a culture of services working together to ensure that service users and carers have a seamless journey through our services.

As services transform, you will lead on aspects of service development and support staff to embrace and embed change.  You will build positive relationships with both internal and external partners.

You will be flexible, motivated and have a problem solving can do approach demonstrating a wide range of leadership qualities, skills and behaviours.  You will be committed to working in partnership with service users and carers to ensure the best possible safest outcome is achieved.

Main duties of the job

  • Take operational responsibility for the Mental Health Community Pathway services which operate out of hours.
  • Responsible for the coordination and management of the staffing resource of a range of services
  • Foster a culture of the services working together to ensure that service user and carers journey through services are seamless.
  • Manage and support staff to manage complex situations with service users; attend and manage incidents or complex situations, and support clinically at times of increased activity and acuity. 
  • Resolve complaints and concerns from service users and carers.
  • Support staff and their wellbeing.  
  • Provide line management to staff who predominantly work out of hours. 
  • Facilitate supervision and appraisals with staff.
  • Support staff to embed learning from patient safety and patient experience investigations.
  • Work with the Out of Hours Managers who are based in the Adult Inpatient Service and cross cover when required.
  • Form positive working relationships with a range of partner agencies
  • Lead on identified aspects of service development and support staff to embrace and embed change.
  • Assume the role of Mental Health Manager On-Call
  • Based in Northampton however have visible leadership across all services 
  • Predominantly work out of hours (night shift) however be expected to cover weekend days on occasion; rotate to day working during the week on occasion for training and meeting requirements and cover arrangements.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered mental health professional (RNMH, SW, OT)
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate education
  • Quality improvement/project management certification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Leadership role (at equivalent Band 6 A4C) in mental health setting
  • Mental health assessment experience as a practitioner
  • Experience of mentoring or supervising junior staff
  • Prioritising multiple strands of work
  • Leadership or management of resources
Desirable criteria
  • Line management of staff from multi-professional arena
  • Operational management of a mental health team
  • Working in adult community or crisis mental setting
