Job overview

This is a really exciting time to join us at Kettering general Hospital. We are seeking to recruit additional specialist pharmacists in the Medicine Division who will get the opportunity to rotate through different clinical areas and develop their clinical and leadership skills.

Applicants from pharmacists that have completed or are working towards completion of a Pharmacy Clinical Diploma are welcome. In addition, we would actively support completion of the non-medical prescribing qualification, subject to funding.

Main duties of the job

Rotations will be 6 months in duration and will include rotating through different medical wards. Successful applicants will be required:

  • To deliver, direct, develop and evaluate clinical Pharmacy services to the adult wards within the Medicine Division including: A&E, Urgent Care, Respiratory, Cardiology, General Medicine, Endocrinology and Care of the Elderly ward
  • To promote the safe, effective, and economic use of medicines through a number of methods including the development of guidelines, teaching, training and audit.
  • To coach, mentor and supervise those staff allocated and to participate in the provision of training to Pharmacy staff and other healthcare workers
  • To develop own skills, knowledge, and expertise in all areas.

The ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and excellent communication skills are an essential part of this role. Person specification

Educations, Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy
  • Registration with the GPhC
  • Postgraduate qualification in hospital pharmacy (or in the process of obtaining one)
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the RPS Faculty
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Registered Independent prescriber
  • Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • 1-2 years post registration UK hospital experience
  • Clinical experience in a range of ward/clinical areas
  • Teaching/training/coaching
  • Responsibility for a defined area requiring prioritisation/problem solving/delegation
  • Experience of leading or implementing change
  • Experience attending senior pharmacy meetings and an understanding of governance structure for that meeting
  • Good clinical knowledge of commonly prescribed medicines
  • Good knowledge of NICE guidelines for common conditions
  • Good knowledge of the NHS and current priorities
  • Experience managing datix investigations
Desirable criteria
  • A good understanding of where pharmacy sits within the organisational structure
