A&E Activity Transcriber

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an A&E Activity Transcriber to join our friendly Emergency Department at KGH .  This is a permanent role, and is for 37.5 hours per week.  Flexibility is essential to  support team working.  

The post holder will need to be self-motivated and demonstrate an ability to manage, organise and prioritise their own workloads in order to meet strict coding deadlines.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • Reading and correctly transcribing (from notes that are not always clear and can be ambiguous) an analysis and interpretation of diagnostic and treatment notes written by clinical staff in patients notes. There are a range of options open to the post holder when making their decisions. The post holder is required to use a high depth of knowledge of ED classifications and protocols.
  • On occasion challenging and negotiating with clinicians when requiring amendments to the chosen code. Ensuring that clinicians understand the financial and audit consequences of any proposed changes.
  • Developing and maintaining in depth knowledge and expertise of the huge area of patient coding to ensure accurate, high quality and timely coding. Carrying out a programme of continuous personal development to ensure their knowledge and understanding is always up to date with the latest publications and thinking.
  • Knowledge of the ECDS and NHS Data dictionary.
  • Working with a variety of documented conditions, investigations and procedures. Problem solving for specialised services.
  • The post holder will be expected to use a high degree of initiative to use the correct code from a range of options. Incorrect allocation may have a direct detrimental effect on the Trusts income under payments of results.

Qualifications

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • 5 GCSEs Grade A-C (or equivalent) or above with Maths and/or English and/or a science subject or an NVQ level 3
  • A level or equivalent including English and /or Mathematics and/or a related science subject
Meini prawf dymunol
  • NVQ level 3 Business Administration or equivalent experience

Knowledge

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • Previous NHS experience.
  • IT data analysis, audit and database experience
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher
  • Able to work well as part of a team.
  • Understanding of Emergency Department Government Clinical Quality Indicators and Performance Target.
  • Able to recognise and resolve routine issues, referring when appropriate
  • Able to communicate clearly, both written and verbally
  • Methodical and organised.
  • Work to strict deadlines whilst under pressure
  • Experience of working with clinicians and/or senior managers
  • Experience of coaching staff
  • Familiar with SnowMed codes
