This Post is part of the Maintenance Team of Kettering General Hospital who provides maintenance services, both planned and reactive, for the properties belonging to the Hospital

The Post Holder is expected to provide a comprehensive gardening and grounds person service for all areas of the Hospital

The post holder will carry out necessary gardening and grounds person tasks to ensure the up-keep and to improve the overall look of the Trust.

The post holder will undertake a planned preventative maintenance schedule for the upkeep of all the grounds and gardens associated with KGH along with reactive calls for add-hock reported defects.

The post holder will be working to established gardening system procedures, good practice, organisational and broad occupation policies.  Often working to measured standards and procedures which require specific training; in first line response situations the post holder will need to establish how such policies can be implemented.

The post holder will undertake annual statutory and mandatory training in-line with the duties for this role.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job include carrying out routine gardening and grounds maintenance activities to include, grass cutting, hedge trimming/pruning, digging, planting, road sweeping, litter picking, salt spreading, weed spraying etc as directed by the supervisor.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • GCSE' Grade 3 (or equivalent) or above in English
  • Qualifications and/or Experience working GCSE' Grade 3 (or equivalent) or above in Maths
  • A qualification in Gardening/landscaping e.g. NVQ level 2 or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good understanding of the maintenance of lawns, flower beds hedges and shrubs
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety issues in connection with the Construction Industry.
  • Experience of working in a team and in a commercial environment. Experience of working with a range of portable tools, small plant, ladders and equipment to enable duties of the job to be carried out.
  • Previous Gardening/landscaping work experience.
  • Experience of working within a customer-focused repairs and maintenance service.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to use mobile electronic equipment (handhelds).
  • Must hold a current valid driving licence.
  • Ability to record detailed and accurate repairs information relating to repair inspections or completed repair jobs.
  • Able to participate in the repairs and maintenance out-of-hours emergency service when required.
  • Able to carry out a repair job or improvement task that involves physical strength, stamina and standing, kneeling or crouching.
  • Capable of working at heights from scaffold platforms, ladders or mechanical equipment.
