Job overview

Coronary Care Unit (CCU)/Oakley Ward is looking to recruit a part time Ward Clerk.

Hours will be between 15:00 and 19:00 across 4 weekdays, with one 08:00-16:30 shift at the weekend. To include weekends and Bank Holidays.  

You will need to be a team player, have the ability to work as part of a team and using your own initiative, have a flexible approach to tasks in a changing environment, demonstrate competence in using IT systems, practice excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills, and maintain a focused and calm resolve in difficult situations.

Main duties of the job

To maintain and update the patient records/notes and other ward records using computer based systems.
To use effective communication skills to deal with patients on a daily basis either via the telephone or face to face. 

To photocopy/scan documents as required.
To ensure patient confidentiality at all times in line with the Trust policy.
To assist in the induction and development of others by demonstrating own duties.
To undertake other ad hoc tasks to support the service needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

-This post involves access to patients and their data including children and/or vulnerable 
adults as defined by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). It will therefore be necessary to apply for and be in receipt of a satisfactory standard DBS check of the  post holder.
-The Trust requires all roles requiring DBS check, to have a satisfactory DBS recheck every three years- The Trust requires require all new starters to subscribe to the DBS update service  where it is a requirement of the role.
-Be responsible for maintaining own vaccinations/Hepatitis B immunity.
-Safeguard patient confidentiality at all times including adherence to the Data Protection Act.
-Attend the Trust statutory refresher courses as necessary
-This post is subject to the terms and conditions of employment of Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
-Be aware of the responsibility of all employees to maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 2 qualification in administration or equivalent hospital experience
  • Good standard of Education to include Maths and English

Knowledge/Experience

  • Knowledge of Data entry
  • Knowledge of Admin procedures
  • Knowledge of GRDP
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in the use of computerised administration systems
