Ward Matron

Band 7

Job overview

We are looking to recruit to the position of Ward Matron on Harbour Ward which includes managing the Place of safety. Harbour Ward is a 12-bed mixed gender acute mental health ward for adults predominantly aged between 18 and 65.

You will be expected to attend monthly meetings and have oversight of the place of safety, and ensure that good relationships are upheld with external stakeholders such as the police, approved mental health practitioners and the local ambulance service.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible and accountable for the day-to-day operational management of the ward.  You will provide clinical leadership and ensure the achievement of key performance indicators.   You will actively seek to promote the wellbeing of your staff team.    You will seek out areas of improvement on the ward and work collaboratively with both internal and external agencies to achieve such improvements.  You will be expected to take part in the mental health management on call rota.  Effective communication with patients and their carers will be critical in ensuring that you drive forward quality compassionate care.

Working for our organisation

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

NHFT promotes a culture of learning to improve the care and safety of our patients and staff, which focuses on people who enable our Trust to be ‘outstanding’ by supporting opportunity, innovation, development and growth.
