Job overview

We are delighted to invite candidates to apply to work with us in this dynamic and expanding Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department in a beautiful area of North Yorkshire.

We are advertising multiple posts. These will be based at York Hospital for an initial period of 12 months with the option to extend for a further 12 months. There are a total of 20 PAs available for these posts and part time working will be considered. 

 

Main duties of the job

We are looking to appoint enthusiastic and forward-thinking Maxillofacial surgeons to these posts, who will work well within the team to continue to develop several leading regional services.

Candidates will contribute to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery on-call rota covering a diverse area of North Yorkshire on a 1:7 basis. This is set out in a 7-day pattern with Friday morning handover.

The department and Trust both offer a welcoming and dynamic working environment, with opportunities to participate in teaching medical students from the Hull York Medical School (HYMS). Research opportunities are encouraged.

Candidates must have full GMC Registration and sufficient experience in the specialty to work independently in clinic and theatre while a familiarity with issues of service organisation and development would be particularly advantageous.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
  • Registerable qualification with GDC
  • Hold a licence to practise with the General Medical Council
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery via: CCT (by the post start date), CESR or European Community Rights
Desirable criteria
  • MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
  • Substantive NHS experience
  • Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology

Clinical practice/competence

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and skill in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Experience of working in an MDT environment

Mentoring and Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching undergraduate and post graduate trainees
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
  • Experience of undertaking Quality Improvement Projects and presenting their findings
  • Experience of supervision of postgraduate trainees

Communication

Essential criteria
  • Communicates with and relates to others effectively
