Job overview

We are looking to expand our friendly team and are looking for someone with recent secretarial experience to join the Elderly Services Team at York Hospital.  You will provide support to the Medical Secretary and the Elderly Consultants.

Excellent administration/secretarial skills and audio-typing qualifications are vital, as well as a good understanding of customer relations. You will be required to deal with queries from patients, Consultants and GPs.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for typing clinical and administrative letters, booking in both urgent and follow up appointments,  answering telephone enquiries and dealing  with patient queries, as well as covering the Medical Secretary during periods of absence.

The successful candidate will be required to have good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise the demands of an extremely busy office and manage their time and workload effectively.

They will also be required to work unsupervised and communicate with Consultants on a regular basis.  Audio-typing qualifications are essential and a knowledge of medical terminology would be an advantage.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English Language, Grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • Typing skills OCR II (or equivalent e.g. RSA II)
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification or appropriate training in Customer Service

Experience

  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • Knowledge of office applications and procedures
