Job overview
We are looking to recruit Healthcare Support Workers for our In-Patient Unit at the Selby War Memorial Hospital, part of the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Our In-Patient unit provides 24 hour care for patients in the surrounding area; providing rehabilitation and palliative/end of life care, as well as discharge planning. In addition we run a clinic once a week on the ward which undertakes a variety of outpatient treatments for patients within the local area as well as a Consultant led Frailty clinic.
The unit embraces multi-disciplinary team working optimising outcomes for patients. We work on the home first principle, and SAFER is embedded within the unit.

You must be able to commit to our 4 week long, full Time Healthcare Support Worker Academy when you join our Trust

Main duties of the job
- To demonstrate care and compassion whilst ensuring that patients’ needs are met
- To carry out nursing and non-nursing duties as delegated by the registered nurse / midwife; using own initiative within the level of competence expected for the role.
- To assist and support members of the multi-professional team in order to provide a high standard of patient - centred care; performing duties without the need for constant direct supervision.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills preferably gained through secondary school education
Desirable criteria
- NVQ/QCF level 2 in Health related subject
Experience

- Detailed understanding of the role of a Healthcare Support Worker
- Awareness of what is important to a patient
Skills and attributes
Essential criteria
- Understanding of how to work as part of a team
- Able to communicate well with patients and other members of staff (face to face or over the phone)
