We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Junior Medical Engineering Technician to join our dynamic team, within the York Teaching Hospitals Facilities Management LLP.

In this role, you will assist in the maintenance, calibration, and repair of a diverse range of medical devices, ensuring compliance with MHRA guidelines and ISO9001/2015 standards. You will support the senior technicians and engineers in routine inspections, troubleshoot equipment issues, and document all activities accurately. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include planning, organising, and delivering routine maintenance and repair tasks, performing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on non-complex medical equipment, and conducting fault diagnosis and technical intervention.

Where necessary, the post holder must attain required training standards for maintaining medical devices, adhere to procedures and policies, and utilise technical skills like hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and manual labour, including lifting equipment and using hand tools.

Managing medical device records by updating databases and providing occasional non-clinical advice is required. The role includes implementing and proposing changes to departmental practices, maintaining physical assets and equipment, and ensuring stock control and security.

Candidates should have strong technical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to high standards of patient care and safety. Development and training opportunities are available for candidates with the appropriate levels good aptitude and role.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • GCSE in Maths and English grade C or above
  • Education to; level 3 in Electronics/Engineering, Clinical Engineering or Healthcare Estates Specialist Technician Apprenticeship

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • IT knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of decontamination of medical equipment
  • Experience of working in a technical functions within a healthcare environment

Skills and Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Able to follow instruction and/or procedure that may be repetitive, but must achieve consistently high quality results
  • Good in all forms of communication to all people providing a helpful and understanding approach.
  • Capable of regular and often strenuous lifting and handling, pushing and pulling
  • Willing to learn a wide range of new skills medical equipment.
