Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Administrator to join our Medical Education Team at Scarborough Hospital. 

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Administrator, who is able to demonstrate that they are practical, flexible, reliable, calm under pressure and are able to work in a team. Previous work experience in a health environment is desirable but not essential. This post requires the post holder to be present in the office. 

Applicants should have a passion for wanting to provide high quality customer service as the first point of contact to the department, and be able to thrive in a fast paced and sometimes unpredictable environment.

Main duties of the job

As the post holder you will be expected:

  • To provide a range of administrative duties to a busy Medical Education Centre (MEC).
  • To undertake tasks individually and as part of a team, and to support clinical and non-clinical course organisation for Doctors and Dentists.
  • To provide administrative support to the Medical Education Coordinators in organising educational events and training programmes.
  • To administrate the Non-training Doctors.
  • To provide Personal Assistant support to the Associate Dean for Speciality Doctors.
  • Responsible for the efficient organisation of study leave administration to support education activity.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English Language, Grade C or above/NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
  • Word processing skills – OCR II (or equivalent e.g. RSA II)
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification or appropriate training in Customer Service
  • ECDL

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of admin procedures and systems such as answering queries, problem solving and progress chasing

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 6 months secretarial/administrative experience
  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • Demonstrable experience of adapting own approach to engage with service users, a range of external and internal stakeholders and colleagues at different levels of seniority and discipline
Desirable criteria
  • NHS Experience
  • Experience of working in an educational setting

  • Evidence of effective problem-solving skills with the ability to be a flexible thinker under pressure
