Are you interested in working in combining working in an NHS laboratory environment and on wards and clinics in a large teaching hospital?

Do you have NHS laboratory experience? If so Point of Care
Testing (POCT) might be the place for you.

An opportunity has arisen in the Blood Sciences Laboratory at SHYPS (Hull Site) for an Associate Practitioner to work in Point of Care Testing.
The successful applicant will support and maintain POCT virus testing equipment at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospitals in order to provide an efficient, high quality diagnostic service.


They will participate in the supervision and training of ward-based staff to ensure that proficiency and competence is maintained. The role will also include supporting all other POCT modalities and will require significant amounts of time working autonomously on clinical areas providing first-line
trouble-shooting, performing analyser maintenance and supplying and monitoring consumables.

The post holder will work as part of a small team of associate practitioners and biomedical scientists.

Main duties of the job

The post holder must become familiar with all POCT testing processes and in particular the maintenance, disinfection and troubleshooting procedures associated with POCT virus equipment.


· The post holder will train and supervise ward-based users of the POCT virus equipment, following standard protocols (SOPs) at all times.


· The post holder will process training records for ward-based staff for all modalities by adding them to the appropriate database.


· The post holder must be able to carry out lifting/handling duties and be able to travel between and around the hospital sites. Travelling between Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital is essential to this role.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • At least, one of the following A foundation degree in a scientific subject, an NVQ level 3 in a laboratory sciences subject, or an appropriate equivalent qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience working within a medical laboratory environment
  • A good working knowledge of pathology laboratories.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in use of laboratory analytical equipment
