Harrogate Integrated Facilities are inviting applications to fill a Decontamination Technician post in our reputable Sterile Services Department.

  • We have recently expanded and have opportunities to recruit friendly and highly motivated individuals to our well-established technical team of around 30 staff. You will be committed to teamwork and delivering a first class customer service.

Experience is not required as full training will be provided upon commencement in post, however previous manufacturing or processing experience would be advantageous.

Following a successful probation period and full training in the department, the candidate will be offered an Apprenticeship Standard 099 in Healthcare Science Assistant L2.

Main duties of the job

The Sterile Services technician will support the provision of a professional decontamination service by performing technical duties in all aspects of the decontamination process. The post holder will provide a customer focused service to staff, managers, clients and suppliers.

The Sterile Services Department is responsible for assessing and implementing the correct method of disinfection, packaging and sterilising of all medical devices that are to be processed in the department, in accordance with the quality standards and current issue of work instructions through the department.

To maintain a quality system for review by the Notified Body against the requirements of the quality standards for compliance against ISO13485 and the Medical Device Directive 93/42 EEC annex V (sterility only)

Working for our organisation

The department specialises in processing surgical instruments and flexible endoscopes through the decontamination lifecycle, ready for patient use. It has a throughput of approximately 180,000 surgical instruments and 1500 flexible endoscopes each month.

Harrogate Integrated Facilities (HIF) was formed in 2018 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Harrogate and District Foundation NHS Trust (HDFT). We supply a wide range of essential services to HDFT hospitals and community sites, including; cleaning, catering, portering, courier and transport, hotel services, estates maintenance, capital building projects, sterile services, equipment library, security, car parking, general office and administration, energy, waste and environmental impact reduction.

One of our 400+ dedicated HIF colleagues, is often the first person a patient or visitor meets when they come to Harrogate District Hospital and can make a real positive difference to them.
