Job overview

The Operating department consists of 6 operating theatres and a 7 bay Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) providing elective, trauma and emergency surgery for Harrogate and the surrounding area including North Leeds.

Within each operating theatre, teams are made up of Registered Practitioners who deliver patient care with the help of a Non-registered workforce consisting of Assistant Theatre Practitioners (ATPs) and Theatre Support Workers (this role).

As a Theatre Support Worker You will need to be an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a passion for excellence, demonstrating continued professional development and have good communication and interpersonal skills. 

As  a Theatre Support Worker you will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of care is delivered and will constantly promote: patient safety, effective care and a positive patient experience at each stage of the patient’s journey.

 

Main duties of the job

In your role some of the tasks you will be expected to perform include;

  • Assist registered practitioners within Theatre and the Anaesthetic Room to deliver excellent patient care.
  • You will help facilitate the smooth running of operating lists by working within a team
  • Prepare the theatre environment before, during and after operative procedures
  • Support all staff to maintain clean and safe environment 
  • Takes own responsibility to gain  and maintain knowledge and skills 
  • Select specialist instrumentation and equipment for operative procedures
  • Participate in keeping an accurate documentation according own scope of practice.
  • Anticipate the needs of the changing highly specialised clinical  environment
  • Accepts patients in Patient's waiting area from the wards to ensure all perioperative documentation is available. escalates to Registered practitioners /Coordinators if needed. 
  • Aid the patient’s operative journey, supports relatives whenever needed
  • Supports in moving and handling patients and equipment within the department and the other clinical areas.
  • Supports staff in stocking up,  cleaning/decontaminating the  clinical   environment to  maintain a safe and  sterile areas throughout.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You must be prepared to have a flexible approach to duties to meet the needs of this 24/7 acute service including  night and weekend shifts. Shifts pater are 8-6, 8-8 and 1945-0815 as a standard. 

Main theatres department team works very closely with Day Surgery Unit's team in aim to provide seamless, safe and people focus care. 

Previous experience in Theatres would be desirable for this position but is not essential as training is provided.

 Care Certificate Qualification is an essential , yet HDFT provides the training if needed to gain those skills. 

If successful you will join our happy and motivated theatre team delivering high quality patient focused care in our main theatre suite, based at the Harrogate and District Foundation Trust.
