Children's Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a conscientious, forwarding thinking physiotherapy assistant practitioner to join our children's therapy team within Specialist Children's Services.

Specialist Children's Services comprises of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech & language therapists, community paediatricians, clinical psychology, specialist nurses and an autism assessment team. The role of the physiotherapy assistant practitioner is to support the physiotherapy team in the assessment, treatment and therapy management of children on caseload in mainstream and special schools, at home, and in the community. This post also supports children's physiotherapy provision for children who are inpatients on our children's ward in Harrogate District Hospital.

Working across both Child Development Centres in Harrogate and Northallerton you will need a driving licence and to have access to a car, as travel across both localities is essential.

You will have a nominal base (either Harrogate or Northallerton) which can be decided on appointment to the post, with a commitment to work a minimum of 2 days per week in the alternative locality with remuneration for mileage as per HDFT policy.

The Children’s Physiotherapy Team at Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust provide a community physiotherapy service for children aged between 0-19 years, who live in Hambleton & Richmondshire and Harrogate. All of the Physiotherapists work within care pathways and have access to other professionals to ensure that a multi-disciplinary approach is taken to patient care, and individual needs are met.

The department is within the Community & Children’s Directorate and is based in the Child Development Centre, in Harrogate and in Northallerton, as part of the Specialist Children’s Services Team

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 GCSE’s or equivalent
  • Achieved or working towards a relevant qualification e.g. Qualification Credits Framework (QCF)
  • Diploma Level 3 in Health & Social Care or a Foundation Degree in Rehabilitation or equivalent

  • Attended other relevant short courses e.g. basic Hydrotherapy course

Experience

  • Previous extensive experience as a rehabilitation assistant/ support worker in a health or social care or education field.
  • Experience of work in the community with children with physical/functional disability.
  • Previous experience working in a multidisciplinary team in health, social care or education

  • Experience of teaching and instructing / basic counselling skills
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience of working with people with communication and/or learning difficulties
