Maternity Support Worker

Band 2

Job overview

If you are keen to learn and passionate about wanting to help people, then the Maternity department is the ideal place for you to work as a Maternity Support Worker.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable person to join our team who is able to work flexibly within the shift patterns on our very busy maternity wards, this includes some bank holidays. You will be expected to rotate onto both days and night duties.

Main duties of the job

You should have excellent organisational, time-management and interpersonal skills and an ability to work within a team and on your own initiative is essential. You must be open to change and interested in your own personal development. You must have the ability to communicate effectively and be flexible within the existing shift system and have an appreciation of the principles of confidentiality.

Working under the direct supervision and guidance of the midwife, you must be a team player, responsible for providing a wide range of care and duties to support women and their families.

The postholder is expected to undertake a set of defined competencies; including the ‘care certificate’. This certificate ensures the minimum standards for the role are met and further training will be given to ensure completion of the Level 3 ‘skills passport’ within a given timeframe. Opportunities will be available to employees to further develop their skills and education to band 3 level.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a development role and you are expected to meet the requirements of a band 3 Maternity Support Worker within 12-18 months from commencing employment. If unable to meet the requirements and there are no exceptional or unforeseen circumstances, then redeployment as a band 2 healthcare support worker to another clinical area will be considered.
