Main duties of the job

Post 1:

The main duties of the job are to provide database management of the Research Department’s REACH referral database, management of the completion of Participant in Research Experience Surveys (PRES) & management of the Research Department’s website & social media pages.

The ideal candidate will have a Psychology BSc/BA degree (2.1 or above). We are looking for somebody who has strong IT skills & is detailed focussed. They will be required to work flexibly as part of a team in a busy shared office environment. This post may suit somebody who is seeking their first Research Assistant Psychologist role but it will not offer opportunities for conducting assessments or therapy.

Post 2:

The main duties will be to support the Research Department’s Research Nurses to undertake delegated tasks to ensure that research participants’ recruitment procedures, treatments, assessments, follow-ups & data collections are delivered according to the approved research protocols.

The ideal candidate will have a Psychology BSc/BA degree (2.1 or above) & experience of communicating with people with diverse needs & from diverse backgrounds. Experience of working with people with mental health problems & experience of undertaking or contributing to research projects is desirable. We are looking for somebody who can work well as part of a team & can prioritise their workload effectively in order to deliver the Research Department’s objectives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Post 1

The main role will be to provide database management of the Research Department’s REACH referral database. This will include the following;

  • Processing all referrals received.
  • Sending out welcome packs, letters and emails.
  • Initial participant screening/collection of demographic data either by telephone or online.
  • Writing and delivering reports on recruitment data to Research Group and Research Delivery meetings. 

In addition to this, the postholders further duties are listed below;

  •  Management of the completion of Participant in Research Experience Surveys (PRES) and ensuring objectives are met.
  • Management of the Research Department’s website by updating current content and creating new content.
  • Management of the Research Department’s social media accounts.

Post 2

  • To promote studies to clinical teams within the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Trust (NSFT) and to non-NHS partners.
  • To attend public events and mental health and dementia carer groups to talk about research opportunities.
  • To contact people who have signed up to hearing more about research opportunities via our REACH database.
  • To support the Research Nurses to identify suitable participants for studies.
  • To arrange appointments to see participants either at home, in clinic or remotely.
  • To take informed consent and carry out study related procedures where appropriate to the role.
  • To carry out treatments, assessments and follow-ups as necessary in accordance with research protocols including physiological (e.g., blood samples) and psychological measurements.
  • To undertake study specific training as required.
  • To assist with the creation and maintenance of study specific site files.
  • To use electronic patient/participant files, study specific databases and on-line data entry systems.
  • To attend team meetings and study-specific meetings to provide updates about study progress and any recruitment challenges.
  • To maintain a working knowledge of relevant mental health practice.
  • To work at all times according to Good Clinical Practice, Research Governance and Trust guidelines.

To cover duties of other research staff where appropriate to role when required

  • Eligibility for Graduate Membership of BPS.
