If you are passionate about patient care and involvement, as well as looking for your next step into leadership and management that will also equip you with personal development opportunities, working within a strong, supportive and established team, then this role is for you!   You will either be a qualified nurse or hold a clinical professional qualification within a multi-disciplinary team of nursing and MDT staff to ensure clinical excellence and outstanding care are delivery at all times.

You will lead by example and inspire those around you to provide exceptional care, operational and clinical excellence on the Ward.    As part of the management team, you will work with colleagues and senior leaders to lead and support your team.

You will have the opportunity to engage in Quality Improvement initiatives and contribute to the strategic development of our service.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the management and leadership of a team of health professionals providing care over a 24-hour period. To provide effective leadership and management to staff which promotes high performance standards both individually and as a team.

Expected to lead the ward team in providing high quality, compassionate nursing care and will be able to demonstrate this through compliance with performance outcomes.

Expected to be a positive and strong leader who will set a clear and compelling vision for the team,  will be a visible presence who influences and supports consistently great teamwork and a positive culture.

To lead by example and motivate the team to provide exceptional levels of care to all our patients. As an enthusiastic and positive change agent, their dedication, professionalism and communication skills will inspire others to also go the extra mile and display high levels of performance in even the most challenging situations.

 As Ward Manager on Sandringham ward, you will be fully supported by a Matron as well as the care group leadership which includes the Lead Nurse, Service Director, People Participation Lead and the Clinical Director. 

The post holder will be expected to engage in on-going professional development and appraisal, engagement in Quality Improvement initiatives and contribution to the strategic development of the service. 

Working for our organisation

Becky Wilson house located on the Julian Hospital site,  is a refurbished purpose built unit housing two wards that provide  services for older men and women with functional mental health with complexities. The unit is configured around Sandringham ward, the male admission ward and Blickling ward, the female admission ward. 

The Julian site hosts a total of five Norfolk  later life inpatient wards which affords you the opportunity to build close networks with other ward manager colleagues, to build on their experience and knowledge of the role.

Each ward has an MDT that includes nursing team, OT, social workers, psychiatrists and psychology, physiotherapists, physical health nurses, discharge facilitators as well as pharmacist.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate experience at a senior clinical level including some staff management/supervision experience.
  • Experience of working within a multi disciplinary team
  • Evidence of providing leadership in a Mental Health care environment including service development.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Nursing degree or equivalent, Dip SW or Dip OT or equivalent, or HCPC registered
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree or post graduate certificate in area of clinical / therapeutic practice.
  • ILM certificate in management or equivalent.
