Therapy Assistant - Orthopaedic Team

The Rehabilitation Service are looking for someone with suitable experience who is looking to develop their role at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital within the Orthopaedic Team, working on the Trauma and Elective Orthopaedic Wards.
You will work alongside therapists on the wards, undertaking therapy programmes to improve a patient’s mobility and functional ability and assist in the risk assessment process for patient’s needs on discharge.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
- To carry out delegated therapy assessments and rehabilitation programmes as specified by the qualified therapist.
- To provide therapy to patients within the Rehabilitation Services as part of an agreed working rota, this will include twilight hours.
- To work as part of the orthopaedic therapy team involved in the assessment and treatment of patients with multi-pathology who may often exhibit confusion or anxiety. The therapy assistants may well be asked to work on other wards depending upon the staffing needs of the Trust.
- To facilitate rapid discharge of patents from the ward, this will include screening of medical patients, providing information and the provision of equipment if necessary to ensure a safe discharge.

Qualifications

- GCSE English grade C or above (4 or above in new scale)
- GCSE Mathematics grade C or above (4 or above in new scale) or Key Skills 2 Numeracy

- Educated to NVQ Level 3
Experience

- Previous experience with dealing with members of the public or voluntary group activities
- Experience of self-directed working/ ability to prioritise tasks

- Current or recent experience of working in a health/social care setting

- Proven verbal communication skills, demonstrating evidence of listening and questioning skills and being able to adapt communication skills as required
- Proven interpersonal skills demonstrating empathy and sensitivity to the needs of the patients, carers, staff and colleagues
- Demonstrates organisational skills and good time management. Ability to prioritise workload and work independently
- Ability to use initiative and problem solve, but recognises own limitations, and when to seek advice from seniors
- Demonstrates the understanding of confidentiality and the requirement this is to be maintained
