Research is an integral part of healthcare and Clinical Research Nurses play a vital role in delivering clinical research, and ultimately improving patient care and treatment pathways.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Research and Development department for an experienced Clinical Research Nurse/AHP to work in the Multi-specialty team.  

The post holder will be responsible for delivering new and existing trials in our Multi-specialty Research team including areas such as Neurology, Stroke and Renal. This role gives an opportunity for the post holder to grow their knowledge and skills in a variety of clinical research settings.

You will work with R&D Office staff, local clinicians, specialist nurses, different specialty research teams and relevant research networks. The post holder will be involved in the day-to-day running of clinical trials which involves recruitment, treatment, monitoring, and collection of blood for pharmacokinetic / pharmacodynamics studies, and the provision of support to the patients involved. You will also be expected to liaise with study sponsors and other research partners as well as internal departments within the JPUH.

IT skills are essential, as the role will include data inputting and accurate recording of research activity.

Continuous professional development is seen as a priority and you will be working within an extended team for support. Full research training will be given and support will be provided from induction onwards.

Delivering relevant, important clinical research for our patients is all part of a day’s work in our friendly Research and Development Team at the James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Education and Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse/AHP on the appropriate part of the professional register
  • Have, or be working towards, a health/research related degree or equivalent demonstrable knowledge
  • Evidence of continuing professional and academic development
  • Willingness to further develop knowledge and skills

  • ICH Good Clinical Practice training

Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience at Band 5 or above, some of which should have been working in a research role
  • Evidence of research activity and a good understanding of research and clinical trials
  • Knowledge of sample preparation and transportation

  • Experience of collaborating with other agencies

  • Competence in standard PC packages (including Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills with an ability to deal with the public and colleagues in a pleasant and polite manner at all times
  • Evidence of research activity
  • Leadership qualities and possession of supervisory skills to develop junior staff
  • Advanced clinical skills relevant to the role eg; phlebotomy, cannulation, ECG recording
  • High level of organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Team player
