Deputy Ward Manager- Talygarn Ward

Are you a Registered Mental Health Nurse looking for a new opportunity as a deputy ward manager to work in an organisation that will help you to develop and achieve your goals to become the best you can be? If so, you're in luck! An exciting opportunity for a Deputy Ward Manager has arisen within Talygarn Ward at County Hospital.

You will join our team at Talygarn Ward which is a 20 bedded, mixed sex, mental health ward based within County Hospital in Pontypool.  We welcome applications from outside of Wales, as well experienced nurses. We adopt a flexible/blended approach to rostering, including 12 hour shifts, to ensure that you are able to manage your work/life balance, so tell us what you can work and we will try to accommodate your needs.

The Deputy Ward Manager is a senior member of the inpatient team and will be responsible for the care coordination of patients and support the Ward Manager with the day to day clinical management of the ward, have excellent communication skills, be highly motivated and have the ability to respond effectively to arising mental and physical health needs. They will provide sound clinical practice and guidance to junior staff, be adaptable, and capable of delivering a high standard of care.

No two days are the same, with plenty to keep you engaged and motivated, but also a good amount of routine.

We will ensure that you have access to both managerial and clinical supervision, and actively support individual well-being whether it be a chat with one of our Well-being Connectors, accessing our Occupational Health services or a drop in session at “chill out in the Chapel”.

Our Ward provides acute inpatient care for patients with wide ranging mental health issues living within the Borough of Torfaen and North Monmouthshire.  Lead by a Senior Nurse and Ward Manager we have recently reviewed our skill mix in recognition of the increased expertise and experience required to support both our patients and workforce, and have created additional band 6 roles to complement the Deputy Ward Manager post.  We value an MDT approach and have regular support from psychology, occupational therapy, dietetics and social workers to optimise the support available to our patients during their stay.  We are located opposite the Older Adult Functional inpatient Unit and co-located with the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team (CRHTT) and the Assertive Outreach Team.
