Job overview
Maternity cover - We are seeking a motivated individual to join the Public Health team, working on Health Improvement locally. The post holder will work with a range of teams and services to deliver health improvement objectives, and lead a team of practitioners. The post holder must be able to demonstrate their ability to work with multi-disciplinary/multi-agency teams of diverse individuals and be able to manage conflicting perspectives. Key working relationships that the post holder will be expected to establish and maintain, both internally and externally of ABUHB, include fellow Public Health team members, other ABUHB departments, Public Health Wales, other Health Boards, and Local Authorities. There may be times when the post holder will be expected to work with, engage and/or communicate with members of the public.
This post is fixed term/secondment for 11 months due to - meet the needs of the service

Main duties of the job
The role requires the successful candidate to be a lead and advocate for public health action on the wider determinants of health, such as education and skills, good work, money and resources, housing and our surroundings, and on health inequalities. Undertake a highly complex analysis of interventions, population health and wellbeing; health needs, risks, and inequalities; and the use of services.
The fundamental element of the role is to provide leadership to drive improvement in health outcomes and the reduction of health inequalities, oversee annual business planning at a public health team level that aligns to priorities set by the Executive Director of Public Health and Strategic Partnerships supporting the Deputy Director of Population Health and Business Development to deliver financially viable plans and work within the standing financial instructions of the Health Board.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Master's in public health/health promotion or Allied discipline or equivalent professional qualification or equivalent demonstrable professional experience
- Evidence of continuing professional/personal development
- Extensive practical and theoretical knowledge of Public Health practice, health promotion models and community development.
- Understanding of determinants of health and health inequalities.
Desirable criteria
- Registered or working towards registration with the UK Public Health Register (Practitioner registration)
- Up to date knowledge of developments in WG health related strategies. Awareness of sources of relevant data/information.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience in a senior role in delivery of public health initiatives
- Substantial direct experience of working with diverse senior professional and managerial groups across a range of organisations and professional disciplines.
- A track record of representing public health themes in different fora
- Staff management and development experience.
- Experience of leading/developing and implementing varied Public Health/Health Improvement initiatives
- Experience of working with the main partner organisations especially local government understanding the environmental and “political” context in which they operate. Quantitative and/or qualitative research.
