Pharmacy Technician in Primary Care GP practice - ABUHB PCCA
ABUHB Primary and Community are offering an exciting opportunity for passionate, motivated, forward-thinking Pharmacy Technicians looking to develop a career within Primary Care GP practices.
These posts provide the opportunity for Pharmacy Technicians looking to move sector and are new to GP practice to complete a transition programme with the support of a in-house Pharmacist, ensuring their competence and confidence in-line with National Primary Care Pharmacy Technician Framework.
Training is supported by an in-house programme in addition to completion of the GP Pharmacy Technician Medicines Optimisation Programme delivered by Pharmacy Workforce Development South (PWDS).
Our posts allow Pharmacy Technicians to develop a substantive portfolio of experience setting you up perfectly to apply for ongoing career opportunities within GP practices. Excellent peer support is provided through our wider Primary Care Pharmacy network.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 14 months due to a training programme. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
Main duties of the job
- To contributing to the provision of safe and effective medicines management within Primary care GP practices.
- To a work as a core member of the team, working effectively with other health and social care professionals delivering services to patients.
- To improve the quality and effectiveness of medicines management within practice.
- To provide patient focussed, prudent healthcare.
- To undertake medicines reconciliation in line with practice protocols and standard operating procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of prescriptions and repeat prescriptions.
- Responding to patients’ questions both face to face and over the phone; referring problems or queries to the pharmacist.
- Participating in patient reviews and updating of patient records via clinics in the practice, domiciliary visits and in nursing and residential care homes.
- Participating in medication audits.
- Providing advice and information to GPs, staff and patients to support the improvement of prescribing safety, quality, cost-effectiveness and the appropriate use of medicines to get the best outcomes for patients.
- Assisting in the monitoring and management of prescribing budgets and the preparation of evidence-based resources and information that support cost-effective prescribing.
- To promote medicines safety.
- To supervise and assist in training less experienced pharmacy technicians, foundation trainee pharmacists, students and prescribing clerks.

We welcome applications from Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians currently completing the Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education in Pharmacy Technician Practice with HEIW/UEA and will be registering with the General Pharmaceutical Council in February 2025.

Essential criteria
- Registered with GPhC
- BTEC/ NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent OR Level 4 Certificate of Higher Education in Pharmacy Technician Practice
- Relevant post-qualification experience and completion of specialist training including completion of accuracy checking of dispensed prescriptions and/or medicines management training to degree level or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience
- Evidence of recent and relevant Continuing Professional Development
