Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity to work as part of the Facilities team, working as a chef in the Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran.
The post holder will work as part of a team that provides catering duties throughout the catering operation. The post holder will assist with the day to supervision and organisation of these services.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is confident to work on their own initiative possessing flair and enthusiasm as well as being self-motivated and able to empower the team.
The working hours will be 19:00 - 02:00 on a two week rota which includes weekend working.
Main duties of the job
You will undertake delegated tasks from the Operational Services Managers. Amongst other things you will be responsible for:
Planning team members work schedules and resource requirements;
Co-ordinating the work of the team to ensure team goals are reached;
Quality audits;
Effective team leader who can manage and adhere to financial targets, and is capable of maintaining a high quality standards of service, which is responsive to customer’s needs.
Production of all meals, snacks, salads, sandwiches for patients, staff and visitors
Production of specialised dietary requirements in accordance to the pre-agreed menu.
Liaising with nursing staff and Health Board dieticians regarding specialised dietary requirements
Supervision of catering assistants regarding food preparation regeneration and food provision for customers
Control of food safety and quality through continuous monitoring of food temperature and correct catering operation in accordance to Food Safety and Health & Safety procedures and good working practice
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- To be trained to the Level of City & Guilds 706 / 1 & 2
- Possess the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate or Level 3
- Good Standard of education
- Previous experience within the catering industry
- Show evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s Level 4 Award in Managing Food Safety in Catering
Knoweldge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Show evidence of continuing professional development
- Working within the NHS
- Previous experience of Catering services
- Knowledge of allergens, dietary and nutritional requirements
- Knowledge of HACCP documentation & infection control
- Managing information – providing an efficient service and communication network (both internally and externally)
- To comply with all aspects of current food hygiene legislation and practices, pest control procedures, security, health and safety and fire procedures through out the department

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
