Job overview

We are currently seeking an occupational therapy support worker to fill a part time (30 hours)  vacancy in the Assertive Outreach Team based at Maindiff Court Hospital. The assertive outreach team provides a more enhanced service for adults diagnosed with severe mental illness.  In addition to mental health problems, the people who use the service are often affected by alcohol/drug misuse, homelessness or have contact with the criminal justice system. The post is community based and the successful applicant will see individuals within their own home.

Main duties of the job

If successful, you will work within a multi-disciplinary team providing Occupational Therapy interventions under the direction of the qualified Occupational Therapist (OT).

OT's work with people to establish the impact of their mental health problems on their day to day functioning. They devise person-centred plans for intervention (group and one to one including facilitation of the 'recovery through activity' OT programme) with the person to further assess, improve or maintain their functional ability. Interventions offered in the community aim to maximise opportunities to create meaningful connections in the community and address individual goals in line with recovery based practice.

The successful applicant will:
- have excellent communications skills
- have the ability to think creatively and flexibly
- be able to demonstrate empathy, compassion and values of person-centred care.

The post holder will be expected to work predominantly between the hours of 9-5 Monday to Friday with some flexibility around this as needed to meet the needs of service users.

The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) OT service is committed to delivering a high quality service and therefore requires that all OT support workers participate in the Agored training programme

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
