Job overview
This is the opportunity for a motivated and innovative Speech and Language Therapist who is ready to advance in their career. We are looking for a Band 7 Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our multi-award winning Community Integrated Team, delivering community services to adult patients in the Bridgend Locality.
The role benefits from flexible working time and remote working within an integrated team which provides a range of interventions to promote independence by avoiding admission to hospital. It also aims to improve the ability of people who live with long term conditions to care for themselves and live independently in the community for longer.
The post holder will be forward thinking and able to demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge when working with a variety of adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders, resulting from stroke, dementia, and progressive neurological conditions diagnoses.

Main duties of the job
You will autonomously undertake highly specialist assessments and interventions with individuals with complex communication difficulties and rehabilitation. You will provide a service in clients’ own homes, care homes and the local community. You will also work with the wider multidisciplinary team colleagues in local care networks.
The community Speech and Language Therapists will liaise on videofluoroscopic evaluations at the local hospital with support from the acute team, an excellent opportunity to develop and maintain these dysphagia skills.
You will be actively encouraged to participate in continuing professional development activities particularly on digital technologies and will be supported to develop leadership skills. You will be responsible for the supervision of Band 4 SLT Technicians, and have a key role in service development of the SLT team and the wider MDT.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree.
- Registered member of Health and Care Professions Council
- Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy.
- Highly specialist knowledge underpinned by current evidence based practice.
- Post-graduate qualification in dysphagia or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Quality improvement methodology/ clinical audit training.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post-registration experience in a paediatric setting.

- Experience of line managing staff
Desirable criteria
- • Experience in using telehealth

Essential criteria
- Excellent verbal and written skills to share complex and sensitive information.
- Able to work unsupervised and independently as a MDT member negotiating case management.
- Clinical assessment skills in own clinical area.
- Ability to manage frequent exposure to distressing information and unpleasant working conditions.
- Able to demonstrate situations where effective leadership and management skills have been used.
