Job overview

To provide assistance to urology nurse practitioners on the Urology Unit at Clatterbridge Hospital and to support them in delivering high standards of patient care.
 
To work unsupervised using own initiative when recording patient observations and urinalysis results.
 
To be responsible for a wider range of patient duties.

 

Main duties of the job

  • Support nurse practitioners with bladder instillation treatments for cancer and benign patients 
  • Support nurse practitioners with performing urodynamic, flowrate and bladder scan investigations  

  • Support nurse practitioners with difficult urethral catheter exchanges, suprapubic catheter changes and clean intermittent catheterisation education
  • Support with outpatient clinics for consultant and nurse practitioners 
  • Prepares bed / trolley spaces for admission and discharge 
  • Ensure all clinical areas are prepared and equipped for investigations / treatments  
  • Able to demonstrate procedures to junior staff. 
  • Puts stock away and adapts stock room area as needed using own initiative. 
  • Report low stocks, although not responsible for ordering 
  • Aware of the financial implication of ordering and the cost to the unit. 
  • Deals with patient enquiries face to face and over the phone and escalates to nurse practitioners as required  
  • Undertake general clerical duties as needed  
  • Assists with patient transfer with hoist and supports with moving and handling as required 
  • Able to prepare equipment in an emergency. 
  • Maintains effective communication with all patients and staff. 
  • To be aware of and maintain requirements for patient confidentiality in the clinical setting. 
  • To work as part of a team and with the wider MDT 
  • Support the urology team with additional clinical duties as require

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in a related subject or Lead Adult Care Apprenticeship
  • Completed clinical competencies for clinical tasks and procedures as appropriate.
  • Experience working in a clinical environment
  • Care Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in the NHS
