Join Our Dedicated Aseptic Services Team

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Highly Specialist Health Care Scientist or Pharmacist. This role is essential in ensuring the safe and effective use of aseptic medicines.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of a safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective aseptic dispensing and manufacturing service.
  • Shape strategic direction in consultation with the Team Leader - Aseptic Services.
  • Play an active role in the management of the Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS).
  • Assist the Aseptic Services Manager with implementing service improvements and developments in the aseptic unit in line with best practices and current guidance.
  • Take a lead on identified projects within the aseptic services.

This position offers an opportunity to significantly contribute to the quality and efficiency of our aseptic services, ensuring that we maintain the highest standards of patient care and regulatory compliance.

Provide expert pharmaceutical information and advice to medical staff, healthcare professionals, and patients within the Trust and externally. Manage and develop the aseptic dispensing and manufacturing service using specialist aseptic knowledge, ensuring safety, reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Ensure compliance with GMP, MHRA requirements, and other guidelines. Lead the daily delivery of a specialist aseptic service, maintaining high-quality standards. Develop and maintain Quality Assurance and Control systems, support electronic platforms, and manage documentation. Review and develop services proactively, coordinate staff training, monitor the aseptic unit environment, and organize audits. Liaise with healthcare professionals, evaluate complex medicines information, accuracy check aseptic dispensing, interpret prescriptions, and provide specialist advice.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

  • Professionally registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain or Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Masters level qualification in Pharmacy / PTQA/STP
  • Staff management with involvement in recruitment / appraisals / training / leadership / motivation / attendance management/performance management and participation in grievance or disciplinary procedures.
  • Experience of training others in specialised areas of aseptic services and have developed training packages.
  • Evidence of experience in planning, managing and implementing service improvements and changes across the dispensing, cytotoxic and manufacturing work streams.
  • Significant, relevant and ongoing personal CPD.

  • Relevant Aseptic Preparation & Dispensing Course / training.
  • PTQA qualification (2 year course diploma level, 3 year course masters level)
  • Significant experience in project management including major change projects.

  • Ability to plan and organise Aseptic Services and staffing (across the cytotoxic, dispensing and manufacturing work steams) and to adjust plans in response to changing circumstances to ensure timely service provision to Trust and external customers.
  • Excellent written communication skills with proven writing skills in production of reports, letters, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to tailor communication skills to provide complex medicines related information to a variety of people (prescribers, nurses, patients).
  • Advanced aseptics knowledge and skills with advanced levels of clinical and non reasoning and judgement in order to manage difficult and ambiguous problems and act on highly complex information.
  • Effectively improve and evaluate service quality.
  • Critical appraisal skills and ability to analyse data and convert this into information used to support service management.
  • Demonstrates ability to deliver service change in line with changing national priorities.
  • Demonstrates ability to change service delivery in response to audit results.
  • Knowledge and appropriate use of management procedures.
  • Ability to prepare aseptic products including cytotoxic medicines. This requires highly developed physical skills with manipulation of fine tools and materials and emphasis on accuracy.
