Trosolwg o'r swydd

We have an exciting position for a Junior Clinical Fellow doctor in Acute Medicine to spend 6 months in supporting the Junior SHO tier rota.

Our Acute Medicine department comprises two main clinical areas: the Urgent Medical Assessment Centre (UMAC), which was redesigned in 2016, and the Acute Medicine Unit (AMU).

The AMU has 27 beds providing level 0/1 care for patients admitted from the ED or UMAC.

The UMAC has 20 assessment chairs and six trolleys to assess referrals from primary care and our ED every day between 8am and midnight. It performs within Same Day Emergency Care national standards and assesses around 200 to 300 emergency medical attendances per week either directly from primary care or from our Emergency Department (ED), with which it has close links.

The posts we are offering are, ideally, full time and fixed for a period of 12 months. However, consideration will be given to candidates unable to undertake whole time duties for personal or health reasons.  These new posts will support the consultant responsible for the 27 inpatient medical beds on AMU, the Urgent Medical Assessment Centre (UMAC) and post take of patients referred to Medicine within the Emergency Department. The successful candidates will also participate in the further development of Same Day Emergency Care service and how this is integrated further with our partners.

This post would be suitable for a doctor who is completing Foundation Year Training, potentially with aspirations to consider an Acute Medicine specialty training application in the future. Alternatively, you may wish to broaden your overall experience as a doctor or increase your experience of working within the NHS.

Specific Responsibilities Of This Role:

  • Contribution to the junior doctor (SHO level) rota for management of Acute Medicine patients. This is mainly based on the Acute Medicine Unit, the Urgent Medical Assessment Centre, and the Emergency Department.
  • Medical student supervision and teaching.
  • Contribution to development of guidelines.
  • Contribution to the Department’s clinical audit programme.

The full shift rota is planned on a team basis to ensure even cover across the length of the rota period. These will include early and late shifts on a 3 weeks rotation. One of these weeks will include a non-clinical week.
