Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the team for a 12 Month Fixed Term role as the Operational Service Manager for the Gender Service for the North West of England. The Children and Young People’s Gender Service is a Phase 1 Provider of Gender Services provided in partnership by Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

The postholder will support the management of day-to-day operational issues in the service and will have responsibility for providing management and leadership to the operational and administrative and clerical teams. The postholder will enable the successful delivery of high quality services for children, young people and their families and will ensure that systems and process that enable the team to function effectively are successfully embedded within the service.  

Successful candidates will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be well organised, innovative with the ability to work well autonomously as well as part of a team and will be committed to improving services for children, young people and their families.

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience in NHS or other health related management
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant Management qualification
  • Post Grad certificate in management

Experience

  • NHS Management experience (minimum 2 years)
  • Substantial experience of management within a health service or other related field
  • Evidence of successful operational leadership and effective involvement in change management
  • Experience of working with senior clinical professionals
