Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Practice Education Facilitator Team at Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. 

You will join an established and growing team to support the Practice Education Facilitators, Head of Clinical Education, Undergraduate Administrator Coordinator and Clinical Education Team to provide high level and quality administrative support for non-medical pre-registration learners on placement.

Main duties of the job

Applicants will require excellent customer care, communication, and organisational skills to cope with a demanding workload in a busy and changing work environment.  The successful applicant will also require a flexible approach to working and will be dedicated, hardworking, enthusiastic, and highly motivated.

The successful post holder will have administration experience within healthcare or education settings, and they will be an excellent team player with an ability to communicate effectively across teams and departments.  They will also be dynamic and innovative to develop and implement their own ideas to continually improve the clinical education administrative service.  They will be responsible for:

  • The planning, organisation and provision of administrative support for non-medical pre-registration learners on placement in the Trust.

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE level C (level 4-9) or equivalent in English and Maths and/or equivalent experience.
  • Appropriate training (eg ECDL) to use Microsoft software packages and/or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to undertake further study/development.
  • NVQ Level 3 administrator qualification or equivalent experience.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a busy office environment.
  • Administrative experience in a healthcare or educational setting.
  • Experience of using NHS or educational IT systems.
  • Experience of dealing with information of a confidential / sensitive nature.
  • Experience of using Microsoft office.
  • Experience of planning events including timetabling.
  • Experience of hosting events including meeting and greeting groups of individuals face-to-face or on-line via eg Microsoft Teams
  • Experience of liaising and working with stakeholders at all levels and across departments.
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of current issues impacting on clinical education.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written formats with a range of stakeholders including training grade doctors and the wider multi-professional team.
  • Ability to use audio visual and video conferencing software and equipment.
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the demands of the clinical education service as needed.
  • Ability to organise and present information in user friendly and logical format
