Senior Research Nurse

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated nurse to become part of the Research Nursing Team at the Neuroscience Research Centre, here at the Walton Centre.  The research nursing team in the NRC  provides exceptional specialist nursing care to a wide variety of patients taking part in both Neurology and Neurosurgery clinical trials.  

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in clinical research, leadership experience, and a passion for advancing healthcare through innovative research practices. They should possess a relevant nursing qualification and be registered with the appropriate regulatory body.

The successful applicant will provide clinical management and support to the existing Research Team, having oversight of our neurological portfolio of studies and playing an integral part in the feasibility and set up of clinical trials, in collaboration with R&D. You will provide leadership and management for our Clinical Trials delivery unit, driving the education and assessment programme for our delivery team.

·       Lead and support the team acting as an expert resource, demonstrating tenacity and professional integrity

·       Motivate, develop, support and identify training needs for department

·       Provide line management and expert clinical support to the research team

·       Undertake performance development review and act on identified development needs to maintain high levels of performance and quality within the team

·       Assist the Head of Research in the recruitment and selection of new research staff

·       Develop and implement the key worker concept within the Neuroscience Research centre

·       Develop and implement strategies to maintain and increase the level of patient recruitment into neurosurgical and neurological research trials within the Trust

·       Contribute to the implementation of strategies and systems for quality assurance

·       Attend investigator meetings and conferences as required, acting as an ambassador for the Trust

·       Prepare posters/research papers for meetings, conferences and publications

·       Represent the research team at local, regional and national forums

·       Participate in the presentation of research findings within the Trust

·       Attend training programmes relevant to own development and role

·       Work autonomously to manage caseload of patients

·       Ensure all trial-related activities are conducted in conformance with ICH GCP guidelines and national legislation, ensuring that the clinical trial protocol is adhered to at all times

·       Coordinate the research pathway, from screening through to trial closure

·       Support the administration of trial drugs and the reporting mechanisms of the trail according to the protocol

·       Maintain accurate records including CRF’s (Case Report Forms)

·       Identify strategies for recruiting patients to clinical trials and support less experienced team members to implement those strategies

·       Act as a role model for excellence in neuroscience research

·       Build strong professional relationships with all Trust departments in order to promote a good working environment, raise awareness of research and enhance engagement with clinical teams

·       Provide a monthly report of activity, workload and education activity

·       Contribute to the Annual Report

·       Contribute to the annual business planning cycle to ensure that research team is adequately resourced
