The Walton Centre is seeking two 12 month fixed term Assistant Psychologists to support with psychological provision for patients and families within the Cheshire and Merseyside Rehabilitation Network. The CMRN holds an outstanding reputation for the delivery of specialist rehabilitation services across a pathway from hyper-acute to community services. The CMRN uniquely provides support to a diverse range of individuals with complex physical and/or brain injuries, based upon patient need, rather than diagnosis.
The post holders would join an established, warm and supportive network-wide Psychology team, led by a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist with QiCN registration.
Psychological input is extremely varied and can include direct work with patients and families, including therapeutic work, neuropsychological assessment and working as part of a highly skilled clinical team.
The post provides opportunity for development in neuropsychological working, with access to specialist supervision with a QCiN registered Consultant Neuropsychologist, where required.
Main duties of the job
This role will be to support and enhance the professional psychological care of service users within the CMRN pathway, across all relevant sectors (i.e. inpatient and community). Clinical duties will include administration and scoring of psychological assessment, support with psychological interventions, and systemic working (i.e. with MDT, families). All duties will be conducted under the supervision of a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team and NHS Trust’s policies and procedures. Further duties will include assistance with clinically related administration, conduct of audits, management of service resources, and engagement in research projects, teaching and project work.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- An upper second-class honours degree in psychology (or psychology as a main subject) or lower second with the addition of a higher degree in psychology.
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Desirable criteria
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, rehabilitation/health psychology and/or research design and analysis.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- An ability to interact and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive
- High-level communication skills (written and verbal) including report writing and note taking.
- An awareness of the needs of people with complex physical and/or neuropsychological trauma.
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to other clinical settings.
- Experience and good skills in using computers (inc. databases, email).
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working within an NHS setting within the context of a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of research, service evaluation and audit
- Experience of delivering neuropsychological assessments (i.e. RBANS, WAIS and WMS and DKEFS)
- Experience of running psychoeducation and or/mindfulness groups.
Skills & Attributes
Essential criteria
- An interest in working with people with physical health and/or neuropsychological problems.
- Strong skills in communication and an ability to work autonomously (under clinical supervision).
- High level of skills in personal organisation, motivation and enthusiasm, and team working.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of therapeutic approaches (i.e. CBT, mindfulness).
