Associate Neurology Nurse Specialist- Headache

Job overview

As part of The Walton Centre's ongoing commitment to advancing nursing practice a Associate Neurology Nurse Specialist post is becoming available within our Headache team. You will be responsible for working autonomously and should be clinically capable and competent. Training within required remit will be provided.
The successful candidate needs to possess  excellent theoretical and practical knowledge and experience of Neurosciences,  be clinically competent to undertake clinical examination and should be a non-medical prescriber or willing to work towards this..
The successful postholder should also have excellent communication skills, a 'can do' attitude and a passion for driving services forward.
The Trust has an excellent reputation for advancing nursing practice with a large number of specialist and advanced roles. .

Main duties of the job

  1. To work in conjunction with Headache team, lead nurse and lead consultant to provide a coherent and effective service for patients.
  2. Undertake clinical duties including assessing, planning, providing and evaluation of care to patients with  in out-patients, in-patient ward setting and remote support via telephone and email.
  3. Support lead nurse in recording patient outcome measures; including performance, collating, analysing and reporting clinical outcomes.
  4. Involvement in service development projects to improve the Headache service in response to analysis of patient outcomes and national service specifications.

  • Current NMC Registration
  • 1st level Degree relevant to clinical specialty
  • Portfolio to show evidence and experience in general Neurology management

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad range of clinical experience and experience in speciality or related area
  • Evidence of ongoing/recent post registration development
  • Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area
  • Experience in the supervision of junior nursing staff
  • Ability to undertake and participate in audit and research relevant to service needs.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in clinical audit / benchmarking

Skills & Attributes

  • Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding
