Band 7 Rehab Team Lead Dietitian: 0.8 WTE for 12 months (4 days a week)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a temporary position as the Rehab Team Lead Dietitian within the nutrition and dietetic service at the Walton Centre. 

The role will involve contribution to the leadership and delivery of the nutrition and dietetic service across The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust. You will be involved in the assessment and treatment of a defined caseload of patients and maintain accurate records. You will contribute to and lead policy and service development on matters relating to nutrition and dietetics. You will lead the dietetic services in defined clinical area with support from the Principal Dietitian.

Main duties of the job

·       Establish and manage a complex clinical caseload as appropriate to the service

·       To influence and manage the dietetic service ensuring high level clinical assessment, intervention and signposting based on evidenced based care.

·        To work collaboratively with other clinicians, including medical and nursing staff, to influence service development and ensure quality of care is delivered.

·        To provide clinical education and training to other health care professionals

·        Influence research, innovation and professional development for self and others.

·       Provide professional support and supervision across the dietetic service as appropriate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • HCPC registration.
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association.
  • Experience of pre-registration dietetic student training and supervision of junior staff
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant clinical post-registration training/CPD profile
  • Member of a dietetic specialist interest group

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of varied post-registration clinical experience within the acute care setting at a senior level
  • Ability to independently undertake nutritional assessments for hospital inpatients
  • Competent to develop evidence-based nutritional care plans for hospital inpatients
  • Experience of working independently as part of a wider MDT at a senior level
  • Proficient in calculating energy, nitrogen, fluid and electrolyte requirements for a range of treatment approaches including oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition support
  • Experienced in the dietetic management of complex cases with multiple comorbidities
  • Ability to plan and prioritise a highly specialist clinical caseload within the acute care and rehabilitation settings
  • Ability to develop educational resources to meet the needs of patients and carers that are evidenced-based
  • Skills to train and supervise junior dietetic staff, other healthcare professionals and student dietitians
  • Ability to undertake clinical audit and service evaluation projects
Desirable criteria
  • Good understanding of the role of the dietitian in services for patients with neurological conditions and able to identify key stakeholders
