Job overview
To assess and treat own specialist caseload of patients and
maintain own records as an autonomous practitioner, seeking
support for more complex cases from the Macmillan Occupational
Therapy Team Leader. To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as
an autonomous practitioner, holding responsibility for the
occupational therapy needs of inpatients and outpatients attending
the Trust.
Main duties of the job
To participate in the delivery of a comprehensive occupational therapy service, undertaking appropriate
assessment, treatment planning and implementation for patients with diverse or complex presentation and
multiple pathologies.
To use advanced clinical reasoning skills to ensure optimal functional outcome for patients including
complex discharge planning and to support patients with changing and deteriorating function.
To work in conjunction with the MDT members to coordinate safe and effective interventions, employing
Trust and departmental guidelines.
To provide supervision and training for the Macmillan therapy assistant staff linked to the occupational
therapy service. To provide training to staff as part of the Trust’s educational programme on the role of
occupational therapy and the specialist interventions the team provides.
To be willing to participate in training courses and study days to develop own continuous professional
development as required by the service.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Health and Care Professional Council registered
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of post graduate training in relevant area.
Knowledge and Expertise
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of occupational therapy in relevant areas i.e. Oncology / Palliative and Supportive Care
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Occupational Therapy in associated areas including neurology, orthopaedics, acute medical care.
- Excellent knowledge of OT in Oncology / Palliative and Supportive care
Experience
Essential criteria
- Some experience at Band 6 level in relevant area Varied post registration experience at Band 5 level
Desirable criteria
- Additional specialist experience in oncology / palliative and supportive care
