The Medical Education Clinical Fellow post is a unique opportunity for those eager to further their expertise in medical education, join an expanding and highly regarded medical education team to enhance the experience of both medical students and junior doctors in training.
Main duties of the job
The Medical Education Fellow post has been created to enhance medical student and postgraduate doctors in training educational experience and its delivery. The objective for the post holder is to support our Director of Medical Education (DME), Training Programme Directors (TPD) and Clinical Sub Deans (CSD) with the design and delivery of all affiliated University of Liverpool Medical School and Health Education England programmes.
Under the guidance of the DME and CSD’s the post holder will lead on the organisation of undergraduate placement teaching supported by Medical Education department at the Trust. There will be an expectation for the post holder to participate in ongoing education quality improvement and demonstrate a dynamic approach to education delivery.
The post holder will act as a link between student and postgraduate cohorts and education faculty, engaging with learners to provide appropriate pastoral support working with consultant supervisors to reinforce their experience. |

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Develop a wide-ranging understanding of educational theory and teaching methodology and apply this to the delivery of education for undergraduate medical students · Oversee and implement teaching for undergraduates including facilitating small group bedside teaching of undergraduates, small group class room teaching of undergraduates, undergraduate skills teaching, development of e-based teaching and other teaching resources · Work with Medical Education to identify appropriate Clinical and Educational supervision for undergraduate medical students · Develop range of teaching materials to support undergraduate medical students · Contribute to the supervision and feedback to undergraduate medical students, under the direction of an accredited educational supervisor · Develop understanding and skill in the use of common work-place based assessments and constructive feedback · Ensure that all teaching episodes are planned and well-constructed, with lesson planning taking account of student needs, desired outcomes, teaching methodology and teaching environment

Work with senior clinicians to review survey results and placement feedback and devise appropriate action plans to continuously improve the education offer at the Trust

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBChB / MBBS
- MRCP
- MRCGP
Desirable criteria
- PG cert or teaching qualification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Successful completion of core medical training programme or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of the principles of the diagnosis and management of common oncological and/or haemato-oncological conditions
- Sound knowledge of the Medical Education
- Experience of leading on quality improvement initiatives and managing change
Desirable criteria
- Higher qualification in medical education
- Post graduate oncology &/or haemato oncology examinations
- Knowledge of the undergraduate medical curriculum and training at University of Liverpool
- Knowledge of current developments across health education
Experience
Essential criteria
- At least 3-4 months of oncology, haematology or palliative care experience during core medical training or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- ST3+ oncology / haematology
- Experience of undergraduate medical education
- Lecturing undergraduates, facilitating CBL sessions, OSCE examiner
