Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to join Liverpool Women's Hospital whole of life safeguarding service as Deputy Named Nurse for Safeguarding Adults & Children. The successful candidate will work with the Named Professionals for Safeguarding  across the full portfolio including Early Help and Neglect, SEND, Learning Disabilities, Dementia and Mental Capacity Act. 

The successful candidate will support with the line management of the safeguarding practitioners, and through leadership support the development of the service. 

 

Main duties of the job

Under the leadership of the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children and Named Nurse for Safeguarding Adults, the Deputy Named Nurse will have delegated responsibility for aspects of the safeguarding children and adult agenda across the Named Nurses portfolio which includes Looked After Children, Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), Early Help, MCA, DOLS, Dementia and Learning Disability. Working in partnership with the Deputy Named Nurse for safeguarding adults and the Deputy Named Midwife for safeguarding children and young people, the Deputy Named Nurse  is responsible:

  • For ensuring safeguarding practitioners receive dedicated safeguarding supervision, support and advice to aid their development within the service.
  • To actively support front line staff across the Trust to adopt a ‘think family’ approach and consider the needs of dependants when they are providing care.
  • To take an operational lead for policy and guidance development ensuring any changes or amendments to national guidelines and legislation are fully considered.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with the NMC
  • Possession of degree or working towards or equivalent
  • Evidence of complex caseload management or management within a challenging health/social care setting
  • IT literate
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of further study within safeguarding
  • Teaching Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates ability to work well under pressure, has robust personal strategies for coping with stress and challenging situations
  • Experience of multi -agency process and working
  • Experience of managing complex safeguarding issues
  • Experience of working at a senior level with proven ability to prioritise and decision making
  • Evidence of continued professional development linked to demonstrate clinical competencies
  • Experience of dealing with highly emotional and potentially conflicting situations
  • Experience of working with the MCA and DoLS legislation and embedding this into clinical practice
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of managing clinical incidents and/or complaints
  • Awareness and understanding of equality and diversity
  • Awareness and understanding of clinical governance
  • Experience of working with individuals living with dementia
  • Experience of working with individuals living with a learning disability

Skills, Knowledge & Aptitudes

  • Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner
  • In depth knowledge of adult / children’s support services
  • Evidence of handling clinical incidents and complaints
  • Evidence of continued personal development linked to demonstrate clinical competencies
  • Understanding of the wider health and safety, clinical risk and quality issues within a healthcare setting
  • Strong communication and negotiating skills using tact and diplomacy
  • Confident and influential in driving changes / improving standards and working with various internal and external groups and agencies
  • Ability to problem solve, analyse information and initiate change
  • Excellent teaching, training and preceptorship skills
  • Ability to manage own time effectively and delegate and priorities when required
Desirable criteria
  • Critical analysis in respect to the interpretation of relevant case law and legislation to ensure compliance with the Human Rights Act 2000
