Calling all final year Midwifery students about to qualify in summer 2024! Your registration is in reach! 

By joining our team as a newly qualified Midwife and commencing your career here at Liverpool Women's Hospital, you will have the opportunity to develop and consolidate your skills and knowledge during a innovative Preceptorship with dedicated clinical and pastoral support provided by our Preceptorship Lead Midwives.

Our pathway  involves rotation across all areas of our Maternity Services, working in Outpatients, Low and High risk Birth settings and on our Maternity ward.

Our service is continually changing and evolving to meet the needs of the population and ensure women and their families have a positive birthing experience. We are a very friendly and supportive team, keen to gain the best out of every midwife and provide a range of opportunities for career.

Main duties of the job

The role will require midwives who have the passion to provide kind, safe and personalised midwifery care, acting as an advocate for women and their families throughout pregnancy and birth.

Our midwives work across a 7 day per week to meet the demands of proving 24/7 care. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Band 5 Midwife at LWH you will work as part of a team as an autonomous practitioner, providing holistic midwifery and public health care and education to women and their families in a range of settings in the community services across the city and here at the Liverpool Womens Hospital, providing expert care during the ante, intrapartum and postnatal period.

You will be required to work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies as part of a multidisciplinary /multi-agency team delivering safe personalised care to promote positive experience of pregnancies and birth.

Skills, Knowledge & Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to midwifery practice.
  • Commitment to promotion of breast-feeding and support of breast-feeding mothers
  • Proficient in neonatal resuscitation.
  • Knowledge of audit and research
  • Knowledge of public health/midwifery issues.
  • Up to date professional knowledge / reports / frameworks that impact on provision of Maternity Services.
Desirable criteria
  • A general understanding of payment by results and maternity pathways
  • Participation in service development projects.
  • Counselling and bereavement skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable and recent relevant experience of working in community or hospital or birth centre setting
  • Competent in all aspects of Midwifery practice including intrapartum care and perineal suturing
  • Evidence of a desire to work as an integrated midwife in Continuity model.
  • Working knowledge / experience of multiagency working

Qualifications & Learning

  • Registered Midwife / BSc midwifery studies
