Job overview

Support the Department Manager in leading and supervising a safe, high standard of nursing practice and the delivery of evidenced based patient care in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code and the Trust’s Strategy for Nursing and Trust Policies and Procedures. 

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Gynaecology  Division  for a suitably qualified and motivated individual to provide strong clinical leadership in the role of Deputy  Bedford  Centre and Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU)  manager.

Bedford centre delivers care for women requiring counselling support and care in Termination of pregnancy .

EPAU delivers care for women with complications in early pregnancy 6-12 weeks. It also provides management of miscarriage services. 

We are looking for nurses with a strong interest in women's  health and previous experience within gynaecology and or sexual health is required .

The role will involve, overseeing  and delivering direct patients care, co-ordinating rotas and clinics, managing a team of nurses, coaching junior staff, supporting service redesign and supporting the department manager with day to day operational management .

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, motivated and forward thinking individual who will be passionate and committed to delivering excellent standards of clinical care and patient experience.

The post holder will have leading role in developing services and therefore will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to embrace and implement change.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Function at experienced nurse level, able to make effective decisions autonomously / independently without supervision and in partnership with patients, families and the multi-disciplinary team

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of termination procedures and early pregnancy complications. 

Assist with the clinical management of the department, maintaining high standards of nursing practice and promoting the philosophy of patient and family centred care. Ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times.

Support the department manager in undertaking personal development reviews, risk assessments and management, managing clinical incidents, department audits, data collection for nursing indicators and input it into NUMIS.

To be competent and abide by statutory rules and regulations concerning the safe custody and administration of drugs to all patients.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RGN- 3 Years minimum in speciality
  • Mentorship in Practice/ ENB998
  • Professional Knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by diploma level specialist training, experience, short course-managerial training
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership Course
  • Cannulation
  • Diagnostic Ultrasound Qualification or willing to work towards- within 12 months
  • Clinical examination skills course, or
  • Consent
  • Family Planning qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge and skills, underpinned by clinical competence.
  • Develop specialised programmes of care, provide highly specialised advice concerning care and discharge planning
  • Good time management and ability to organise juniors
  • Experience of co coordinating skill mix on staff rotas
  • Health and wellbeing promotion for patients and colleagues
