Advanced Clinical Practitioner Respiratory

Band 8a

Job overview

We are delighted to offer an opportunity to join the ventilation service at Aintree University Hospital. The ventilation ward is planning to add 3 ACPs to its team as part of an increase in its capability and establishment to 12 beds. The Ventilation Inpatient Centre is about to undergo a full rebuild and will be housed in a new state of the art facilty expected to open Mid 2025. The unit has 4 dedicated weaning beds and 8 other beds mainly for acute non-invasive use, though 2 are available to back up the long term non-invasive patients and occasionally for elective ventilation set up.

Aintree, as part of LUFHT, is the host of the regional ventilation service and offers longterm NIV to circa 1150 patients and 30 long term trachy-ventilation patients. Aintree is also the regional weaning service. The medical team oversees Southport’s North West Spinal Injury Centre (NWSIC), 9 high dependency ventilation beds, via a service level agreement, these post will not have responsibility there.

The ACP role is primarily to work alongside the unit medical consultants to oversee and deliver care with the wards rounds and follow on each day. The VIC values true multidisciplinary work and the successful applicants would work in a collaborative way with the nurses, specialist physiotherapy team and others, in addition to the respiratory consultants.

Main duties of the job

The role will require 7 days working, it is envisaged this would be 8am-8pm weekdays and 9am-5pm weekends providing prospective cover for each other and helping ensure continuity of care. The role will be ward based but there will be a role contributing to outreach and opportunity to contribute to the ventilation out-patient work. While the units work is focused on ventilation the ACPs will be involved in delivering the whole of medical care to patients.

The positions are open to those trained as ACP’s or who are taking master’s level training or who wish to. Respiratory experience, particularly of ventilation would be particularly valued. The posts are open to those already trained or those with suitable experience who wish to undertake further training and qualifications.
