If you are self motivated and dynamic with a flexible approach and are willing to accept a challenge, then this may be the position for you.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure. The post holder will be responsible for working in close liaison with the Ward staff to provide a phlebotomy service to our Ward Inpatients. 

You must be able to work as part of a team and be flexible on shift patterns.

 

Main duties of the job

To collect blood samples from patients into appropriate containers.

There will be a requirement to participate in the weekend rotas.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities 


Venepuncture

  • Collect samples of blood into appropriate containers.
  • Accurately label all samples to confirm patient identity.
  • Ensure that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories.
  • Check patient identification against request form identification.
  • Ensure that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure all equipment is used as laid down in operating instructions.
  • Maintain uniform compliance and wear protective clothing.
  • Ensure the safe disposal of used needles and other contaminated material.

Managing Self

  • Attend training lectures, study days and workshops as and when relevant or as per instructions of the Manager.
  • Read all relevant literature provided.
  • Maintain an appropriate awareness of the relevant organizational policies and health & safety guidelines.
  • Maintain Mandatory  role specific Training Compliance.


General Duties

  • Maintain confidentiality of patient’s records.
  • Perform any other appropriate duties deemed necessary by the manager.
  • The post holder shall as necessary provide cover for and undertake duties of absent colleagues.
  • The post holder shall follow all the policies and procedures of the organisation.

  • NVQ 2 /GCSE or equivalent
